Cultivation: Is best cultivated in rich, evenly moist, somewhat acidic, sandy well-drained soils in full sun (best) to part shade. Mature established trees can tolerate some dryness, but moist soils are still preferable. Clay soils should be avoided.
Horticultural merit: The cultivar 'Compacta' has recieved the RHS AGM-award.

The specific epithet, concolor, means "same color" in Latin and refers to that the needles have the same color on the adaxial (upper) and abaxial (lower) sides.
